Home Automation is about the integration of control technology into the home in such a way that that the technology works with you, making for a more pleasant, secure environment. My own goal is to achieve this as unobtrusively as possible, supplementing, rather than replacing, the technology most visitors feel comfortable with. Removing light switches, for example, whilst perfectly feasible, isn't going to make guests feel at home! As ever, in addition to the practical aspects, both cost and reliability also weigh heavily in my choice of solution.
The articles in this section summarise some common HA solutions, based on my own experience and environment. A lot of the information presented here is distilled from various sources - long forgotten web sites, mailing list discussions and so on. I don't claim any credit for originality in the solutions presented here. Where I can, I have acknowledged the original source. All these articles are opinion pieces and include informal reviews and opinions on a number of products; I hope I have succeeded in being fair, objective and accurate.
